Welcome to the New Yew Tree Hall Website
We’re delighted to welcome you to the new home of Yew Tree Hall, Lorton, a place with deep roots, both in the landscape and in the heart of the local community.
This new website marks a fresh chapter for a hall that’s been at the centre of village life for generations. Whether you’re booking the hall for a family celebration, looking to join one of our clubs, or simply curious about our history, we hope you’ll find everything you need here. Clear, friendly, and easy to use.
A Hall with History
Built in the 1820s by the Jennings family as a malting barn for the local brewery, Yew Tree Hall carries with it nearly two centuries of Cumbrian character. From its position beside Boonbeck Bridge, it overlooks Wordsworth’s famous 1,000-year-old yew tree, a living link to the poet and the rich heritage of the Vale of Lorton.
Since 1909, this Grade II listed building has served as the village hall, hosting everything from community dances and fundraisers to pilates classes and parish meetings. Every stone and timber beam seems to have its own story to tell.
Looking Ahead
Today, Yew Tree Hall continues to evolve. We’re working with WK Design Architects and our community committee to plan the next phase of its future, one that keeps the hall’s charm alive while improving accessibility, energy efficiency, and sustainability for generations to come.
In the months ahead, this space will become a living record of our progress. We will be sharing updates, events, stories from the community, and perhaps even the odd nod to Wordsworth and his “Yew Trees.”
